"You hit me once.
I hit you back.
You gave a kick.
I gave a slap.
You smashed a plate,
over my head.
Then I set fire
to our bed."
Women have always bean stereotypically beaten by the man, but this song displays a vengence towards men. Retaliation is the theme. "I hit you back." Women are taking charge and not allowing men to over-rule the violence in the relationship. However, this is still not the norm in the residential setting. In an abusive heterosexual household, the man is mostly always the one conflicting acts of violence towards the woman. "[T]he risk factor is being a female."(257) This is the case for the entire spectrum of violence against women, not just domestic violence.
